The
sights,
sounds
and
aromas
of
traditional
Portuguese
cuisine
and
dance
filled
the
“grande
sala” of
the
Clube
Social
Português
for the
kick-off
of the
celebration
of the
2008 Day
of
Portugal
and
Portuguese
Heritage
in Rhode
Island.
Dining
and
socializing
spilled
into the
outdoor
spaces
on a
bright
and
beautiful
spring
afternoon
where
seven
clubs
and
organizations
offered
their
best
dishes.
Over 680
dishes
were
sold in
the
“concurso
de
gastronomia”,
with the
winners
emerging
as
follows:

of the
Coral
Herança

tempted

sweet
tooth

traditional
pastries

desserts.
While
patrons
enjoyed
the
cuisine
and
company
of
friends,
eight
“Ranchos
Folclóricos”
from
Rhode
Island
and as
far away
as
Bridgeport,
Ct.
performed
throughout
the
afternoon
in a
kaleidoscope
of
color,
music
and
dance.
The
