Estrelas
Competition
is
solely
for
the
purpose
of
providing
an
opportunity
for
the
encouragement,
development,
and
discovery
of
amateur
entertainers.
Contestants
of
any
nationality
can
participate
but
the
song
must
be
sung
in
the
Portuguese
language.
General
Rules
1.
YOU
MUST
PRE-REGISTER
TO
PARTICIPATE
***No
later
than
5:00
p.m.
on
Thursday
May,
16
2008***
2.
Contestants
must
be
strictly
amateur.
3.
Singing
must
be
in
the
Portuguese
language.
Regardless
of
music
genre.
4.
Music
must
not
contain
any
explicit
language
as
you
will
be
automatically
be
disqualified.
5.
Time
limit
must
not
exceed
4
minutes.
Acts
running
over
4
minutes
will
be
disqualified.
6.
If
under
18
contestants
must
be
accompanied
by
an
adult
or
guardian
however
not
allowed
on
stage.
7.
Contestants
must
not
be/have
been
under
contract
for
reimbursement
for
their
performance
in
the
contest.
8.
A
person
may
compete
in 1
solo
or
group
act.
9.
Lip-syncing
is
not
allowed.
10.
Singing
along
with
a
professional
performer
on
CD
or
tape
is
discouraged.
11.
No
talent
scout
solicitation
is
permitted
on
the
campus.
12.
Only
musical
singing
acts
will
be
allowed.
Talent
Definitions:
The
talent
competition
will
allow
contestant
from
the
age
group
of
8-20
in
which
we
will
allow
vocalists
to
be
accompanied
by
Playback
CD.
Group
Age
Limits:
50%
(majority)
rule:
if
one
contestant
is
13
and
the
other
is
14,
they
will
compete
in
the
Maxi
Division.
NO
contestant
over
the
age
of
14
will
be
allowed
in
the
Mini
Division.
NO
contestant
under
the
age
of
13
will
be
allowed
in
the
Maxi
Division
PRIZES:
Each
contestant
will
receive
recognition
for
performance
in
the
Talent
Contest.
There
will
be
cash
prizes,
awards
and
top
winner
of
each
division
will
perform
on
June
7,
2008
for
“Dia
de
Portugal”
in
downtown
Providence.
Judging
will
be
based
upon
vocal
skills,
and
showmanship.
Awards
will
be
given
following
the
contest.
Props
will
not
be
allowed.
Note:
The
Top
Winners
from
the
Mini
and
Maxi
Divisions
will
be
given
the
honor
of
representing
the
talents
of
The
Day
of
Portugal
on
June
7 at
the
Bank
of
America
Ice
rink
in
downtown
Providence
R.I..
Plus
any
additional
promotions
provided
by
existing
media
for
the
event.
Transportation
to
and
from
the
campus,
meals
and
lodging
are
the
responsibility
of
the
contestant(s).
We
will
provide
a
sound
system
for
CDs
and
microphone(s).
We
must
receive
a
copy
of
the
music
2
days
prior
to
the
event
so
that
we
will
have
it
ready
prior
to
your
participation.
Cassette
tapes,
MP3’s
or
ADAT
will
not
be
allowed.
When
do I
need
to
arrive
at
the
Campus?
You
need
to
report
to
the
campus
on
the
day
of
the
contest
1
hour
before
your
contest
is
scheduled
to
begin
(see
times
in
box
above).
You
will
report
to
the
Talent
Show
Coordinator
by
the
side
of
the
stage
(by
the
stairs).
Make
sure
you
have
everything
you
need
for
your
performance.
Pre-Selection
auditions
will
be
scheduled
after
May
1
and
all
qualified
entries
will
audition
in
front
of
a
panel
of
judges.
Dates
are
yet
to
be
determined.
There
are
ten
(10)
available
spots
five
(5)
for
each
division
for
the
final
show
on
May
31
at
Rhode
Island
College.
You
must
arrive
to
the
pre-selection
auditions
with
musical
CD
in
hand
and
ready
to
perform.
All
minors
must
be
accompanied
by
an
adult.
Proper
dress,
identification
and
registration
will
be
checked
prior
to
entering
the
audition.
